THE ABU DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
Ahmadu Bello University has some research Institutes established by law and they have the mandate to run academic diploma programmes the institutes are; the Institute of Administration, Kongo campus, Institute of Education, Samaru Main Campus, and the Institute of Developmental Research & Training (IDR). These institutes run different diploma progammes and Institutions and colleges that are found worthy of affiliation are allowed to affiliate and collaborate after they are found to have met the stringent conditions for affiliation.
In the light of the above, the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has approved AODAC School of Preliminary and Advanced Studies, Ilorin, Kwara State, as an affiliate campus for running its diploma programmes. The collaboration, and affiliation, was necessitated to bring education and learning closer to the needing people at various locations and to ease the admission difficulty in the states. ABU Diploma students at the affiliated campus enjoy full rights and privileges as students at the main campus of the institution. The results and certificates are issued by ABU, Zaria and they bear the name of the respective hosting institute and the university. AODAC therefore, has well-equipped facility and a conducive environment to promote quality teaching and learning process.
The ABU Diploma programmes are 2-year intensive programmes that allow students to acquire intellectual and practical knowledge in specific courses in pursuance of further learning and personal development. The 2-year courses are divided into two sessions. Each session contains two semesters of learning. Examination is written at the end of each semester, and all the semester results are cumulated to give the final result at the end of the 4th semester. The entire semester examination questions and, results are moderated by the respective institute hosting the diploma programme while the final examination (4th semester- diploma two 2nd semester examination) is prepared and administered directly by an external examiner that will be sent from the University (ABU), Zaria.
Successful ABU Diploma students have opportunity of securing automatic admission into 200 Level in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. Thus, in this contemporary time where admission into Federal and State Universities has become an unending crisis, the ABU Diploma programme is perhaps a sure option to guarantee admission into the university. Besides, ABU usually gives greater preference to their diploma students for admission before considering external applicants.
Also, as a mother University in Nigeria, ABU certificates command wide recognition within and outside the country. The diploma certificate can as such be used to secure direct admission into some other universities in Nigeria and abroad. Therefore, students who wish to further their academic pursuits in other Universities and Polytechnics home and abroad can undergo the ABU Diploma programme.
